Finding magic in the mundane

Hi! I'm Stella
I hope you enjoyed the last series on dealing with uncertainty.
Today, I want to share something adjacent to that—something I’ve been practicing while wading through the unknown: finding magic in the mundane.
For years, I skipped over the “small stuff.” Errands like mailing packages, booking an oil change, or returning Amazon boxes felt like interruptions. In my mind, they didn’t compare to the big, high-stakes things: preparing for a keynote, registering my daughter for field hockey, or being there for a friend in crisis.
And it makes sense. Focus on what is important, urgent, meaningful. (Especially when you have a loving husband who has got your back).
But after a whirlwind season in 2024—publishing my book, moving homes, officiating my sister’s wedding, and navigating my toddler’s tonsil surgery—I was toast. Burnt out. Even the highs didn’t feel high anymore.
I rested, slowed down, and gave myself quiet. But something still felt off. So, I hired a coach (yes—even coaches need coaches!). I thought I’d focus on getting back into my “flow” or dreaming up the next big thing.
Instead, my coach nudged me toward the very things I had been avoiding: the small stuff. The nagging tasks that drained me simply by being undone.
So I started like this:
- I returned a package.
- I scheduled the oil change.
- I asked a friend to help me decorate my new office.
- I created a simpler morning routine.
Here’s the surprising part: those little things shifted everything.
Each task gave me a hit of relief, a sense of order, and even a spark of joy. The “chores” weren’t chores at all—they were portals to momentum. Tackling them gave me back a sense of power I didn’t realize I’d lost. Business picked up, a few pounds got shed, and my zest reignited.
If you’ve been wondering where your energy went, the way back might be through the resistance you’ve been avoiding.
Start light. Just like in the gym—you don’t begin by curling 50 pounds; you start with three. What’s the “3-pound” task on your list that, once done, could unlock relief and momentum?
This doesn’t mean the big stuff isn’t important. But sometimes, moving through the small points of resistance is what strengthens you for bigger ambitions.
And of course, not all resistance is meant to be bulldozed—sometimes it’s a signal worth heeding. Your discernment is key.
So—make that doctor’s appointment. Clear that pile off your desk. Pay the bill. And notice what shifts.
P.S. I'm wrapping up my coaching and speaking engagements for 2025 by Thanksgiving. Do you want to do something before then? It's not too late. Let's get you or your team booked for transformation. Schedule a call with me here.
